I Dream of Rain...
Feb. 16th, 2003 11:04 pmHaven't had memorable dreams lately, but finally had a new one tonight.
This was a weird dream combining guild games plus the supermarket dream plus something final fantasy-like plus a few new elements.
Started out I was in the produce section with some guy who was supposed to be on my side (I don't know who he is though he was in Nanopunk) and we were following a riddle trail to find some girl with magic powers. It involved things like looking for markings on the zucchini and talking to the cabbage. She had a staff that looked something like a caduceus and for some reason we realized that meant we needed to go to the dairy section and talk to the milk. We did, and found out where she was. I wandered off to the freezers while the guy went back to the produce section (I didn't know this until I turned around and realized he was gone). I also went back to produce and noticed him talking to some other guy by the cantelopes. The guy he was talking to tried to pull a (disc) gun on him, but by the time he got it out of his pocket, my friend was on the other side of him with a gun pointed at him and a badge out. I surreptitously pulled my disc gun out of my bag, because I wasn't sure what was going on but didn't want to get shot as well. He noticed me doing so and came over and told me to give him the gun. I said I didn't want to, he insisted, I said I wasn't sure that I could trust him, and he shot me.
I rezzed somewhere that looked like my grandfather's den, where all the GMs and NPCs were hanging out. This time i was a fairy. (Not physically, but that's what my character was supposed to be.) There was a mechanic where the GMs could teleport you to different places in the game. One was an office building and was supposed to be an empty forest that randomly rearranged itself so if you weren't careful you'd fall between the cracks and get crushed. One was some really fucked-up thing where you went down into the mouth of a shark and came out in this underwater cave where you could learn to design roller coasters and build and test them. One was a merchant's village with lots of monsters in the surrounding forests. (Killing monsters was how you got gold, mostly.) It was represented by an auditorium. And then there was a generic heroic-adventure sort of land, which was where most people started
out.
I wandered about in adventureland for a little while and got bored, so I decided to go to the underwater roller coaster village and had a blast playing with the roller coaster stuff. They eventually made me leave, though, since somebody was staging some sort of coup and they didn't want me to get involved or hurt.
I then opted to go to the merchant's village and listen for gossip that would help me with my plot. (I think I was trying to find a safe place for fairies to live where they wouldn't be attacked by people.)
I was hanging around, getting information and buying useful things, when I caught I think it was Jim and Uriel roughing up somebody. I ducked behind a counter of some sort and drew my gun, but they noticed me, so
I ran like hell.
I decided to disappear into one of the obscure lands so they couldn't find/chase me, so I went to the GM room where everybody was watching a movie. at random I picked the shifting forest and got teleported there.
After wandering the shifting forest for a while I realized it was the perfect place for fairies to live, since we could fly whenever the earth cracked, and fairy civilization wasn't all that organized so we probably wouldn't be particularly concerned with cities getting rearranged every so often.
I felt happy and safe, but then I noticed Jim ducking behind a tree, and
realized that they'd figured out where I was and were still hunting me.
I fired a couple shots at various people, and ran. In the end I hid under a desk with a couple of chairs in front of me. I figured it wouldn't provide much protection, but I had no intention of going down without a fight. I got myself hidden just as they came pelting round the corner. They looked around for me and I managed to take down Jim, Uriel, and Susan before anybody realized where I was. By that time there were only two or three people left, and I picked them off while they tried to shoot me through the chairs.
Some girl (tall, skinny, long blonde hair, bad teeth) appeared upside down in front of me (dangling off the desk) and asked me if I wanted a job as a mercenary. I said sure, yeah. She and I and the "dead" people walked back to the teleport site and I "searched" them for fact cards and gold. Got quite a bit of very useful stuff. There was some mumbling about how they couldn't believe I'd managed to take down all of them without getting shot. I just smiled mysteriously.
We teleported back to the merchant's village. I was negotiating with her and a couple of other people when I noticed a handful of people coming up the aisles with drawn guns and grim expressions. A hail of discs commenced, and I woke.
I do have a notion for writing a SIK game based on Hellsing, but I can't yet decide how to balance the forces. Alucard would almost definitely have to be an NPC. I mean, really, he's far too powerful to ally him with the Hellsing side and still have a reasonably balanced game. Then again, he is definitely Integral's pet vampire. I'll have to think some more. I suppose I could assign an equally splufty vampire to the other side as well, and have the two of them duke it out while the battle rages.
I shall definitely have to think more, play more games, do more research, and find older Assassins whose brains I can suck. Er, I mean, pick for information. Yeah. Actually, I think that if I could get a more experienced Assassin to co-GM the game with me, I'd be set. I'll look into that.
